COMPANY HISTORY
A Family Tradition of Service Excellence Since 1954
Our family plumbing business was established by Wally and Norah Jones in 1954 when piped scheme-water was initially laid throughout Perth’s hills. Our first plumbing service vehicle was an old baker’s van purchased from Kalamunda Bakery and the initial focus was on converting the homes of Hills residents from outdoor “thunder box toilets” to indoor flushing toilets.
Over the next 20 years or so, Wally and Norah went on to develop one of the largest contracting businesses in Perth’s eastern suburbs that included not only plumbing and drainage, but also site works, equipment hire, delivery of propane gas bottles (LPG), and a hardware store.
Their clientele grew to not only include most of the residents and businesses throughout Perth’s hills and eastern suburbs, but also various state and local government departments, in addition to many of Perth’s major builders and plumbing contractors. At one stage they employed over 50 staff, second only in number to the Shire of Kalamunda.
Back then approval of residential service and large projects was less formal and mainly agreed by way of a word and a hand shake. But trust wasn’t just implied, it was what reputations were built on.
In 1966, Wally and Norah’s son Max joined the workforce as an apprentice plumber with the Public Works Department, working mostly on schools and other non residential government sites.
He transferred to the family plumbing business towards the end of his apprenticeship and was made business partner at the age of 25.
When Wally retired in 1986, Max stepped up, and together with his wife Sylvia they took over full ownership of the family business.
In the early 1990’s Max and Sylvia recognised the need for a service provider specialising in the sale, service, and installation of hot water systems throughout the Kalamunda and Hills regions.
That decision resulted in several key appointments by leading hot water system manufacturers, starting with Solahart and followed by Rheem, Rinnai, and Solar Edwards; appointments that established Kalamunda Plumbing as one of Western Australia’s most trusted and experienced solar hot water specialists.
Finally in 2015, Kalamunda Plumbing was appointed by Energie Group Australia as one of a select group of Dealer-Distributors of their range of Envirosun Solar Water Heaters and Enviroheat Heat Pumps.
With the opening of Kalamunda Plumbing’s showroom at Kalamunda Glades Shopping Centre in 2021, they have also been appointed to distribute Energie Group’s assortment of Air Conditioners and Solar PV Energy Panel systems.
As a result of Max and Sylvia’s leadership and perseverance over the past 36 years or so, Kalamunda Plumbing has evolved into one of the most highly awarded and respected service providers in Perth's Hills and Eastern Suburbs, employing around 14 Team Members and engaging numerous subcontractors.
These days, Kalamunda Plumbing is heading into its third generation, with Wally and Norah’s grandson Chris filling the role of Operations Manager and Licence Holder, and granddaughter Rochelle filling the position of Customer Service Manager.
Kalamunda Plumbing’s range of services has evolved since 1954, to these days include plumbing, drainage, water heaters, gas-fitting, leak detection, water filtration, water softeners, air conditioning, and solar PV energy panels.
The team at Kalamunda Plumbing is proud of its Tradition of Service Excellence started by Wally and Norah all those years ago, and our company goal is to make sure that their tradition of 100% customer satisfaction lives on today through our dedication and commitment to building long-lasting relationships with our customers by providing 100% satisfaction… guaranteed.
